The Vatican Picture Gallery was constructed in 1932 for Pope Pius XI and houses Rome's important Vatican collection, which was originally started by Pope Pius VI in 1800.
Containing many truly magnificent paintings, sculptures and masterpieces by Giotto, Cimabue, Raphael, Crivelli, Leonardo da Vinci, Titian, Domenichino, Caravaggio to name but a few artists, the Vatican Picture Gallery is also home to a room dedicated solely to contemporary Rome works of art.
